Decadent Salted Caramel Brownies

Imagine whipping up some thick, dense, and fudgy brownies that are bursting with homemade salted caramel – pure heaven! Here’s how you can make these irresistible treats:

Ingredients:

For the yummy homemade caramel:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 4 tablespoons salted butter
  • 3 tablespoons heavy cream
  • A pinch of salt

For the fudgy thick brownies:

  • 4 ounces unsweetened chocolate (one bar)
  • 1 stick salted butter (8 tablespoons)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions:

  1. Preparation:

    • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
    • Line a flat plate with parchment paper and spray it with cooking spray.
    • Also, line an 8×8 square baking pan with parchment paper and give it a spray too.
  2. Making the caramel:

    • Place the sugar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Keep stirring; the sugar will clump up but eventually melt into a smooth liquid.
    • Take the pan off the heat, stir in the butter until melted, then mix in the cream. Add a pinch of salt.
    • Put it back on the heat and let it bubble for a few more minutes until it’s smooth and thick.
    • Pour this caramel onto the prepared plate and freeze for 20-30 minutes until it solidifies.
  3. Brownie batter:

    • Melt the chocolate and butter together, either in the microwave or using a double boiler.
    • Whisk in the sugar, then the eggs and vanilla.
    • Finally, stir in the flour and salt until everything is well combined.
  4. Combining caramel and brownie:

    • Cut the solidified caramel into small squares.
    • Mix most of these caramel pieces into the brownie batter. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
    • Sprinkle the remaining caramel pieces on top.
  5. Baking:

    • Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. Adjust the time depending on how gooey you like your brownies.
    • Let them cool in the fridge or freezer to make cutting easier.

Optional Heart Shapes:

  • If you’re feeling fancy, use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out brownies. You can get about 6-8 heart shapes with some leftover scraps. Or just slice them into squares for easy, delicious treats.
